Setting Up Your First Recipient Profile

A profile is the foundation of everything Aril does. The more detail you add, the better the AI suggestions become. Start with the basics: name, relationship, birthday, and 3-5 interests.

Then go deeper: What are their love languages? What gifts have you given them before? What do they complain about needing? What do they do in their free time? Each data point makes future suggestions more specific and personal.

Importing Contacts Efficiently

Instead of manually creating profiles from scratch, use the contact import feature to pull names and birthdays from your phone's address book. This gives you a starting point — you can then enrich each profile with interests and preferences over time.

Pro tip: Focus on enriching 5 profiles first — your partner, parents, siblings, and best friend. These are the people you gift most frequently, so the AI improvement payoff is highest here.

Automating Occasion Reminders

For each profile, set reminders for every recurring occasion: birthday, anniversary, holidays. Aril sends notifications at configurable intervals — we recommend 3 weeks and 3 days before.

The 3-week reminder is your planning window: open Aril, review suggestions, and either pick something or save ideas for later. The 3-day reminder is your execution checkpoint: have you ordered? Shipped? Wrapped?

Getting Better Suggestions Over Time

After you give a gift, mark it as given in Aril. This prevents repeat suggestions and teaches the AI what resonated. If the recipient loved it, note that too — it helps the algorithm understand their preferences more deeply.

Update profiles when you learn new information. She started a new hobby? He mentioned wanting to travel somewhere? These real-time updates keep the AI current and the suggestions relevant.

Advanced: Using AI Credit Packs

Free users get a set number of AI-generated idea batches per month. Premium subscribers get unlimited generations. For occasional gifters, the free tier is usually sufficient.
